Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on 3 Myths About Portable Toilets Debunked

Portable toilets are a practical bathroom solution for construction sites, festivals, sporting events, outdoor weddings and other occasions. Unfortunately, they also have a bad rap, and many people hold misconceptions about renting portable toilets. Here are a few myths that simply aren’t true.

a long row of portable toilets

1.) They’re dirty and smell bad
At Pitton Plumbing & Heating Inc., we pride ourselves on delivering spotless equipment that’s fully functional every time. What’s more, our service technicians are responsible for ensuring your portable toilets remain clean for the duration of your event. Our standard units include one weekly cleaning, with more frequent servicing available upon request.

It’s important to keep in mind that portable toilets only become odorous and unsanitary if they’re overused. This is why our experienced staff will work with you to determine how many rentals you’ll need to accommodate all your guests for the entirety of your event.

2.) They lack basic bathroom amenities
While all our basic units include toilet paper, hand sanitizer and an interior mirror, we also offer models with a sink and flushing system. Alternatively, you can rent two- or four-person handwash stations to provide an open-air space for washing up. Our electric sink trailers even provide both hot and cold water.

If you want your guests to truly feel like they’re in a luxurious indoor bathroom, our VIP trailers are just what you need. Among other things, these two-washroom restroom trailers include a stainless-steel mirrored vanity, self-closing faucets (with hot and cold water), porcelain toilets and climate control to ensure a pleasant and comfortable bathroom experience.

3.) They’re an eyesore at events
If you want to rent portable toilets for an outdoor wedding, corporate event, anniversary party or other special occasions, there are plenty of ways to ensure they don’t disrupt the ambiance of your event. Our sleek white wedding units are an elegant solution, or you can upgrade to our VIP trailers for maximum comfort and myriad amenities. Additionally, you can spruce up the units with flowers, decorative lighting, privacy screens and more to create a luxurious restroom area for your guests.

New Product Spotlight: The Rocela Handwash Station

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on New Product Spotlight: The Rocela Handwash Station

Are you planning on hosting an outdoor event this summer? If so, you should consider renting a portable handwash station. Outdoor events are a great way to enjoy the warm weather, but it’s important to be vigilant about practising proper hand hygiene and maintaining sufficient social distance to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

closeup of a man washing his hands with soap

Advantages of Handwash Stations

Portable handwashing stations promote good hand hygiene practices and can stop the spread of germs. Here are some additional benefits of renting one for your outdoor event:

  • They allow guests to clean their hands. In addition to eliminating germs, handwashing
ensures the elimination of dirt, pesticides and other chemicals that alcohol-based
    hand sanitizers can’t remove.
  • They’re more accessible than bathrooms. Handwash stations provide convenient outdoor
access to soap and water. They ensure your guests don’t have to seek out
bathroom facilities nor wait in lengthy lineups to clean their hands.
  • They can ensure compliance. Handwash stations can help guarantee that your event follows public health recommendations.

In addition, portable stations can be more affordable than other handwashing solutions.

When to Install Handwash Stations

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of proper hand hygiene. Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can kill the COVID-19 virus. While alcohol-based hand sanitizers are great for killing germs, they’re not effective for visibly soiled hands. Here are some examples of outdoor occasions that can benefit from portable handwash stations:

  • Weddings
  • Birthday and anniversary parties
  • Corporate events
  • Picnics and barbeques
  • Concerts and festivals
  • Golf tournaments
  • Fundraisers

Introducing the Rocela Portable Handwash Stations

Pitton Plumbing Portable Sanitation offers Rocela single-person handwash stations for your outdoor events. These stations come equipped with soap, soap dispensers and paper towels. Furthermore, these units are:

• Self-contained. They come with an 18-gallon freshwater tank and don’t require electricity or a designated water source to function.

• Hands-free. They come with a foot pump-operated sink that allows for touchless handwashing.

• Mobile. Rocela portable handwash stations are lightweight and portable.

• High-quality. The vanity, backsplash and sink on Rocela portable handwash stations are constructed from aluminum. This material is more resistant to viruses than plastic.

In addition, the single-person design of the Rocela units makes it easier to enforce social distancing protocols at your event.

Product Spotlight: High-Rise Construction Portable Toilets

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on Product Spotlight: High-Rise Construction Portable Toilets

High-rise construction sites are difficult to access and have limited space for facilities. That’s why high-rise construction portable toilets are necessary at these types of sites. They’re a must when downtime needs to be minimized and the safety and comfort of your workers is a priority. Here’s what you should know about them to help you choose the right option for your next project!

3 Types of High-Rise Portable Toilets

There are three kinds of porta potties that can be used on high-rise construction sites: regular portable units with a sling and roll-off units. Each of these toilet rental options have their advantages and disadvantages.

Regular portable unit with a high-rise sling.

In order to deliver this type of porta potty to difficult-to-reach job sites, a sling and lifting hooks are put into the unit so a crane can be attached. The lifting hooks are wrapped in galvanized steel that doesn’t rust. The units are large and comfortable and can be fitted with a battery-operated light.

  • Pros: Regular portable units with a high-rise sling are easy to transport with a crane, and they have a large holding tank (60 gallons). They have plenty of room inside.

  • Cons: They’re heavy and hard to move once delivered to the site.

Roll-off units.

Roll-off units are more compact and versatile than regular portable toilets fitted with a sling. These units are fitted with four industrial-strength caster wheels, which means workers can easily move the unit up to your high-rise job site in an elevator. Once brought to the job site, your workers can move the porta potties to the most convenient location. They can later be repositioned as the work proceeds. Once in place, the wheels on the porta-potty lock so the unit stays in place.

The units have a toilet located inside the stall and a urinal in the back. They also have a detachable roof for protection from the elements.

  • Pros: Roll-offs are small and compact and can be wheeled into freight elevators or convenient locations.

  • Cons: They’re less roomy, less private and have smaller holding tanks (38 gallons) than regular porta-potties.

Single self-contained units.

Our single self-contained restroom units can also be lifted making them ideal for high-rise projects where running water or sewer services are unavailable. They operate as fully equipped portable washrooms with ventilation, running water, lighting and heat.

  • Pros: Roomy units with hot and cold water, made from heavy gauge steel exteriors are insulated and equipped with heaters, hot and cold running water, sinks, toilet and urinal. They have the largest holding tank capacity at 110 Gallons.

  • Cons: The self-contained units are larger than the other options and require access to two 15 AMP 110 Volt Power Cords.

4 Benefits of Renting A Portable Toilet For Your Home Renovation Project

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on 4 Benefits of Renting A Portable Toilet For Your Home Renovation Project

There’s a lot to take into consideration when undertaking a home renovation project, but one thing that’s often overlooked is the value of renting a portable toilet. In fact, a rental toilet can be a welcome addition to any renovation project. Here are some of the main benefits.

exterior of home undergoing a renovation with ladders and supplies strewn about

1. You’ll be able to maintain your privacy

Renovations often entail hiring strangers to come and work inside your home. Sometimes, people feel more comfortable if they establish boundaries that allow them to maintain their privacy. For example, if your renovations are limited to the exterior of your home, you may ask the contractors to remain outdoors. Similarly, you may prefer keeping your bathrooms for private use only, even if there are renovations going on inside. A portable toilet rental is a perfect solution for maintaining your privacy during a home improvement project.

2. You’ll be able to keep your bathroom clean

Renting a portable toilet during your home renovation will also eliminate the stress of having to clean your bathroom at the end of each day. Renovations aren’t glamorous and your contactors might track dirt, paint, or plaster dust into the bathroom. Keep your home clean by renting a portable toilet specifically for the construction team to use.

3. You’ll have access to a toilet if yours is out of order

If you’re remodelling your bathroom, using the indoor facilities might not be an option for anyone, yourself included. In this case, renting portable toilets for yourself and the crew you hire is a must.

Additionally, it may be necessary to turn off the water in your home. This is another situation where both you and the contractors working on your home can benefit from a portable toilet.

4. You’ll be able to conserve water

Another bonus of renting a portable toilet during home renovations is that it can help you conserve water. Not only does this reduce the strain on your septic system, but it’s great for the environment. Each flush uses a substantial amount of water, so getting a portable toilet can make a big difference, especially if there are going to be several people working on your home.

Winter Guidelines for Portable Toilets on your Construction Site

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on Winter Guidelines for Portable Toilets on your Construction Site

Just because the cold weather’s here doesn’t mean your construction projects are going to stop. When the temperature dips, getting your work done quickly and efficiently is a primary concern but you also need to see to the comfort and safety of your workers.

portable toilet unit covered with snow

By law, construction sites in Ontario are required to supply one restroom for every 15 workers with hot and cold running water for washing hands. Employers must also provide facilities that are heated in the winter, if possible.

Pitton Plumbing understands these conditions and can supply you with units that meet all of these rules and guidelines. Our self-contained units are perfect for projects on construction sites and will allow you to follow all of the Ministry of Labour’s regulations regarding sanitation. We also offer Double Self-Contained Units, which provide two separate washrooms which can be labelled for men and women’s separate usage.

Our self-contained units include the following, making them ideal for winter use and provides a comfortable experience for your employees:

  • Heaters
  • Interior lighting
  • Hot and cold running water
  • Continuous power ventilation
  • Soap, tissue and paper towels

If at all possible, place your portable restrooms somewhere indoors to protect them, and most importantly your workers, from the elements of the season.

Guidelines for Outdoor Construction Site Set-up

If an indoor location isn’t possible, here are some guidelines to follow when placing portable toilets for construction sites outdoors in the winter. Our units are made of a durable, heavy-gauge steel exterior, so you can be confident they will hold up in the winter elements and construction site or yard atmosphere.

  • Keep them clean
Weekly servicing and cleaning helps prevent the tank from freezing. Luckily for you, weekly service is included with all of our portable restroom rentals.
  • Stay warm
Make sure your portable units stay warm by installing heaters, if they’re not already supplied. You can also place them in direct sunlight to take advantage of some free solar power the natural way.
  • Keep out of the snow
To keep them as accessible as possible, avoid putting units in a place where the snow will naturally drift or where snowplows will push the snow.
  • Easy access
Put portable toilets somewhere that’s easy for service trucks to access. Try to place them near a paved road.
  • Stay out of the wind
Place your units next to a wall or building to shield them from strong winds. Heavy winds can blow the unit over and wind chill can make the inside of a portable toilet even colder than usual.
  • Avoid employee falls
Place salt around the entrance of the restroom to make sure that your employees don’t slip and hurt themselves. The salt also prevents the units from freezing to the ground.

Many people worry that social distancing measures will prevent them from being able to celebrate life’s special occasions. However, with a little creativity, it’s more than possible. Though large gatherings must be hosted outside, this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the comforts that come with hosting an event at an indoor venue. All it takes to throw a VIP outdoor party is a little extra planning.

Social Distancing in Style

Both small celebrations and large events like weddings, baby showers and milestone birthdays can now be celebrated outside. Though the health and safety of your guests should always be a top priority, you can still throw an unforgettable party without putting anyone at risk. A good decorator can transform your backyard or public park into a chic venue. Just be sure to organize everything beforehand to ensure that social distancing measures can be easily followed. Have signs that instruct guests to go one-by-one to get their food and that remind everyone waiting to use the portable toilet or handwashing station to stand at least two metres apart. It’s also a good idea to have hand sanitizer available in several locations around the venue.

Climate-Controlled Portable Toilets

A VIP event deserves a VIP washroom. There are many occasions for which you can rent an air-conditioned portable toilet, and our VIP trailers are a classy upgrade from our regular units. These trailers each include two washrooms and can provide up to 600 uses. The combination of black floors, white walls, and mirrored vanity make it the perfect choice for any upscale gathering. These Sinks Are a Must-Have for Outdoor Events This Year

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on These Sinks Are a Must-Have for Outdoor Events This Year

If you need running water for an event, renting a sink trailer ensures you can meet your hygiene needs. Essential for everything from simple hand washing to food preparation, this unit is a must-have for any gathering that requires you to supply your own water. Here’s what you should know about these portable sanitation units.

line of bbqs at a community outdoor event in the summer

All About Sink Trailers

A sink trailer is a portable unit that can hold up to 870 litres (230 gallons) of water. Each unit comes equipped with soap and paper towel dispensers and has eight stainless steel sinks, which can provide both hot and cold water. Our sink trailers run on 120 V outlets, and you have the option of renting a generator to power it from us or using your own.

When Do You Need a Sink Trailer?

Consider renting a sink trailer if you’re hosting an outdoor event with little to no access to running water. This can include but is not limited to:

  • wedding receptions,
  • family reunions,
  • neighbourhood block parties,
  • fundraisers
  • BBQs, and so much more!

Running water is necessary at any gathering, as guests must wash their hands regularly. Furthermore, soap and water can be used to wipe down any surfaces that may have been touched by multiple people, such as chairs or picnic tables. The Provincial Government of Ontario is now allowing larger gatherings to take place so, if you’re planning on hosting, make sure running water is available at all times and check in with your local municipal bylaws for more great safety advice.

Safety First

If you’re planning an event, your guests’ safety should be at the forefront of your mind. You can still throw the party of the year while abiding by the rules laid out by the government. Renting a sink trailer is a great start, as it allows for frequent hand washing and for surfaces to be cleaned often. Be sure to enforce physical distancing and have your guests take turns when going to get food and washing their hands at the sink trailer. It’s also recommended that you encourage everyone to wear masks — an exception can be made when eating, of course. Enjoy the company of your family and friends, while staying safe and healthy.

Where Does The Waste From A Porta Potty Go?

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on Where Does The Waste From A Porta Potty Go?

Whether it was at a party, a festival, or on a construction site, you’ve probably used a porta potty at least once in your life. Which means, at some point, you’ve probably wondered about where all the porta potty waste ends up? As a portable sanitation rental service, this is one of our most frequently asked questions. Here’s how porta potties work.

a branded Pitton Plumbing portable sanitation truck

How Much Waste Can a Portable Toilet Rental Hold?

Our regular porta potties can hold 60 gallons, or 227 litres, of waste. If you’re planning on renting porta potties for an event, the number of toilets you should order will depend on the number of attendees and the duration of the event, as illustrated in our handy Portable Toilet Usage Chart for Events.

On construction sites, the number of porta potties required depends on the number of employees on the site. These numbers are listed on our Portable Toilet Usage Chart for Construction Sites.

If you think you require a portable toilet with a greater waste capacity than our Regular Portable Unit, don’t hesitate to ask about the other models we have available.

How often are they cleaned?

We send technicians to clean our portable toilets once a week. These weekly cleanings are included in the cost of the rental and continue throughout the entire period. Your location will be listed on the service route for your area, so you’ll be given a good idea of when to expect your technician. If you feel your porta potty needs to be replenished more frequently, you can easily schedule extra cleanings.

Where is the porta-potty waste sent?

We are fully certified by the Ministry of Environment, which means we’ve been trained to be vigilant when handling waste from portable toilets. When one of our technicians comes to clean your porta-potties, they’ll drain the waste into their vacuum truck. After, it gets transferred to a licenced waste treatment facility where it’s safely disposed of.

The Importance of Hand Hygiene and How Handwash Stations Can Help

Posted on by bianca in Articles, Blog Comments Off on The Importance of Hand Hygiene and How Handwash Stations Can Help

Practising good hand hygiene is the best way to avoid the spread of harmful germs and prevent illnesses. The majority of common infections are spread when you use your hands to touch your face, other people and surfaces such as tabletops, doorknobs and handrails. As the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic, it’s important to recognize that washing your hands frequently and thoroughly is crucial to your own health and that of others in your community.

Our Portable Solutions

Often, at outdoor events and construction sites where portable toilets are needed, there’s no running water. In these situations, renting handwash stations is a sanitary way to ensure proper hand hygiene practices.

Designed to be used by up to two or four people at a time, these units come equipped with soap, paper towels and the necessary dispensers. Fresh water flows from the holding tank out of a faucet when you step on the foot pump. This allows you to avoid wasting water and touching contaminated surfaces.

Alternatively, you can rent a sink trailer. Equipped with eight stainless steel sinks and self-closing faucets, these units are ideal for events with children or onsite food preparation. The trailer has a capacity of 230 gallons and uses electricity to provide hot and cold water. Soap and paper towel dispensers are also included.

Hand Hygiene In 10 Steps

A recent report in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that only about half of Canadians and people in other high-income countries wash their hands after using the toilet. However, washing your hands is easy and involves only a minimal amount of time. Here are the 10 steps you need to follow to disinfect your hands.

  1. Wet your hands with warm water
  2. Apply enough soap to completely cover your hands
  3. Rub your palms together
  4. Rub your right palm over the back of your left hand with interlaced fingers, and vice versa
  5. Place your palms together and rub your interlaced fingers back and forth
  6. Rub the backs of your fingers against the opposite palm with your fingers interlocked
  7. Clasp your right thumb with your left hand and rub rotationally, and vice versa
  8. Rub the tips of your right fingers rotationally in your left palm, and vice versa
  9. Rinse your hands with warm water
  10. Dry your hands

You should spend at least 20 seconds scrubbing your hands. Remember to use a cloth or paper towel to turn off the faucet to avoid contaminating your hands.
